Swedish History / Culture
Nordiska museet is Sweden’s largest museum of cultural history. An everyday palace, and a place of stories about the life and people of the Nordic region – yesterday, today and tomorrow. Discover clothes and fashion, textiles and jewelery, homes and furniture, photography, toys, folk art, glass and porcelain. There is also an exhibition about the only indigenous people in Sweden, the Sami.
In the vivid exhibition you will meet the Vikings through movies, scenery, projections and sound effects as well as archaeological objects. Knowledgeable guides in Viking gear will answer all your questions and the many replicas let you explore life as a Viking with all your senses. You will learn about the Viking raids, journeys and mastery in ship building as well as the everyday life at the farm. The Norse mythology is present everywhere and here myth meets truth.
The Vasa ship capsized and sank in Stockholm 1628. After 333 years on the sea bed the mighty warship was salvaged and the voyage could continue. Today Vasa is the world’s best preserved 17th century ship and the most visited museum in Scandinavia.
ArkDes is Sweden’s national centre for architecture and design. It is a museum, a study centre and an arena for debate and discussion about the future of architecture, design and citizenship.
World History / Culture

Art / Sculptors
Nationalmuseum is Sweden’s museum of art and design. Nationalmuseum is also a government authority with a mandate to preserve cultural heritage and promote art, interest in art and knowledge of art. The collections comprise of painting, sculpture, drawings and prints from 1500-1900 and applied arts, design and portraits from early Middle Ages up until present day.
Moderna Museet collects, preserves, shares and exhibits modern and contemporary art. It opened in 1958, when modern art from the early 20th century and photography from 1840 and onwards was moved from the Nationalmuseum into a former navy drill hall on Skeppsholmen in Stockholm.
Since the start in 2006, Bonniers Konsthall has exhibited and discussed contemporary art from all over the world. At Bonniers Konsthall Swedish and foreign artists are exhibited, both emerging and more established artists. Bonniers Konsthall shows the latest art to a wide public, where generating a dialogue on art serves as the driving force.
Carl Eldh (1873-1954) was one of Sweden’s most prominent sculptors during the first half of the 20th century. The studio in which he worked and lived for more than three decades is now preserved as a museum.

Authors / Counts & Countesses
The Swedish author August Strindberg (1849-1912) spent the last four years of his life in a building he called The Blue Tower. The reconstructed apartment, consisting of three rooms, and his library of some 3,000 works are today the core of the Strindberg Museum. There are also exhibitions presenting various aspects on Strindberg’s life and work.
The Hallwyl House
Enter the home of Count and Countess Walther and Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, one of Stockholm’s most eccentric and engaging museums. This palatial residence was built as a winter home for the immensely rich couple, completed in 1898.
Military
Armémuseum, a museum in central Stockholm, depicts Sweden’s history from the 16th century to the present with a focus on how people have been affected by war and conflict. Authentic objects and dramatic scenes shape the everyday life of the war.

The ambition with Stockholms Spelmuseum is to bring the game history to life in such a way that it becomes accessible to everyone, regardless of age, origin or experience.
